| News reports this week were the son of famed evangelist Billy Graham was disinvited to a prominent gathering because he has committed the grave and politically incorrect offence of suggesting Muslims are slaves to their ideology. Excuse me! Devout Muslims themselves admit, even proclaim with pride, they are slaves of Allah. The word itself, Muslim, translates as submission or slavery. Yet Muslim sensibilities are offended if a non-believer, a spokesperson for the hated “People Of The Book” or Christians, should dare to suggest the very fact they proclaim openly. Have Americans totally abandoned all sanity? Is this nation complacently allowing the enemy to set the rules of engagement in a war the enemy proudly proclaims has as its aim the sole purpose of bringing an end to Western Civilization? I had sort of promised myself I would isolate real world commentary to the special View From My Back Porch pages and stick to Tandra commentary with the weekly updates, but this is a situation in which Tandra and the real world overlap. Kilthane is speaking on this week’s page of the deity referred to as Kaliste when he says, “An ideology is shaped to purpose by the ambition of those who believe in its ends and by those who wish to exploit them.” It has ever been thus. The high priest proclaims he backs his pronouncements with the power of the god in question. He is only speaking the words and passing along the commandments as the god orders. In other words, he is the official stand in for god and his wishes are to be thought of and carry the weight of words and commands from god’s own mouth. How do you know he speaks true? You just have to take his word for it. If pressed on the matter, the messenger of god will trot out the official user guide as his final authority. He will insist his claims of justification are backed up by the written word which are the commands laid down by god’s own messenger! Such claims are less than worthless for the simple reason they do nothing to validate that the priest actually has direct access to god’s authority. Such claims merely step the question back one level. Rather that relying upon a man who insists his authority comes directly from the god, believers are asked to rely upon a man who wrote down hundreds of years past words he insisted were those of the god. What good evidence is there men who wrote a thousand plus years past are any more reliable as conveyers of god’s will than the priest speaking in the religious center yesterday? Both demand obedience with an authority that is in no way verifiable. Both demand you take their validity on faith. Both demand you dare not question them or their god will send you to hell for your refusal to believe their unfounded pronouncements. Should intelligent men make the observation that the pronouncements and demands made in the name and by the authority of the god make no sense in a rational world, the stock reply is that the god’s reasoning is so far advanced, man has no capacity for judging the god’s requirements. The fact is, judging god has got nothing to do with it. It is those who claim they are authorized to speak for the god who should be the object of our most critical inspection. The god in question might possibly be beyond our ability to evaluate, but the motives and ambitions of those who insist they speak for the god and who claim their word carries the same weight as if it came from the very lips of god himself have an agenda as transparent as freshly polished glass. Those who speak for the god have a single objective and that objective is to rule over men. They have the unholy desire to be god’s stand in on earth with the desire to cause their disciples to pass each day of their lives with but a single thought in their heads, how can I best please the holy man who speaks for god this day? In all practical matters, the priest is just another bureaucrat who lusts to obtain unfettered rule. Whereas the politician looks to the power of the state to enforce his directives, the holy man brings to the table the unlimited power of an unknowable god. Whereas the politician threatens his victims with death and destruction on this earth if his directives are not followed to the letter, the priest threatens unimaginable pain and destruction in a mythical afterlife. Whereas the politician lusts to attain total power over your life and be thought a god on this earth, the holy man believes his elevation to godhood comes by his function as god’s mouthpiece. Both the politician and the priest are brothers is spirit joined at the hip and with lusts for identical powers. They are two sides of the same coin and their only distinction is the disparate roads they have chosen to achieve their identical aims. Both the priest and the politician promise limitless rewards if you choose to worship them, but the fact is your worship will bring you only despair, pain and death. May the sun always shine on your parade! Next Week; “The God That Wasn’t” Tandra...more than escapist fantasy, it’s a revolution! Hanther |
